Birchbox September 2014 Review

Birchbox is a monthly subscription box that sends 5 beauty samples to your door. You will receive new samples each time for £10 plus postage and packaging. The theme for Septembers box was Happy Days, which is meant to make you feel all nostalgic and remember back to happy moments in your life. While I really like the products in this months box, I'm not quite sure how they fit in with the theme. Anyways lets get on with what was actually in the box:

BeautyBlender + Solid Cleanser
I mentioned before that I was disappointed not to receive the BeautyBlender in my June box. Opening my box this month it was the first thing I laid eyes on and is probably my favourite item this month. I've tried the Real Techniques complexion sponge but I've wanted to compare it with this as a number of people have said it's better. The BeautyBlender and cleanser cost £26 which is double the price I paid for the box.

Benefit - It's Potent Eye Cream
Another product that I've wanted to try for a while. I considered buying this a few weeks back when I was looking for an eye cream, but I saw a couple of reviews where it has made peoples eye's sting and that put me off spending £25.50. Receiving this free sample means that I can decide if it's worth the money. The cream itself is stated to brighten the eye by removing dark circles and give a more youthful appearance by smoothing fine lines. The sample is quite small but as I'll only need a rice sized amount of product it should give me enough to get a good impression. One thing I will say is that the cream kind of smells like cheap red wine, don't ask me why but when I took a little sniff I immediately turned my nose up. The price of this sample is around £5.39.

Model Co Lip Lacquer - Morocco
This month Birchbox contacted subscribers to let them choose the makeup sample they wanted in their box. There were three options to choose from, two lip lacquers and a mascara. I opted for a lipgloss in morocco, which is a neutral mauve shade. This is marketed as a pigment dense, long lasting, non-sticky and hydrating lipgloss. I gave this a try yesterday and it's a nice texture and while it is hydrating it's clearly not as good as a balm in that department. How long did it last? Well I ate and drank a few cups of tea and I'd say it needed reapplying around every few hours. The full size cost £15 and as this sample is about a third of that, it probably cost about £5.

Korres - Citrus Body Milk
In recent boxes I've had a few different body lotions which I haven't really liked, mainly due to the scent. However, this body milk smells good enough to eat; I can't really describe the scent  but it's sort of musty, minty and citrusy all rolled into one. I'm not doing it any justice because it's one of those things you have to smell yourself. This lotion contains almond oil, aloe and shea butter to provide long lasting hydration and skin suppleness, and because of these natural ingredients it shouldn't cause any skin irritation. The lotion is really nice and light so it soaks into the skin quickly, leaving the skin instantly feeling smoother. The full size is usually 200ml for £9.50 and this sample is 50ml so worth around £2.38.

Agave Healing Oil Treatment
I wouldn't say that I was really in the market to try a new hair oil because I've already got one that I love; I suppose it's always good to try out similar products though. This particular treatment oil is said to restore and rejuvenate dry, frizzy hair whilst also replenishing colour. The main ingredient is the agave plant which contain a light oil helping to absorb into the hair. It also contains a long list of other ingredients including coconut, vanilla, sunflower, safflower and madagascar baobab oil (sounds like baking ingredients) to nourish the outer layer of hair. Overall, this sounds likes a fab product that I might use after my hairs coloured later this week. The full size cost £16 for 60ml, this sample is 4ml so priced at £1.07.

Life Style Extra - Urban Fruit Smashing Strawberry
I am a big fan of dried fruit snacks and after just opening the packet and having a little nibble, I can confirm I like them! It taste like strawberry and has the same texture as a dried apricot. 102 calories in a bag and 1 of your 5 day would make this a good little snack in-between meals.

Lifestyle Extra - Birchbox Photo Clip
One of the only items in the box that probably fits in with the general theme of this months subscription. This little photo clip comes in a range of different colours and has Birchbox on one side and happy days wrote on the other. I don't have any pictures spare to put in it yet, but I'm sure when graduation comes round there will be plenty.

Overall Thoughts

Really loved this box and I think there's a nice selection of different products for once. Birchbox has moved away from the predominately lotion based boxes which I've received over the past couple of months. The total cost of this box is £39.84 meaning that I got an extra £26.89 in value: fantastic!

If you want to join Birchbox then now is the time to do it as they are offering all new subscribers a guaranteed BeautyBlender in their first box. If you do want to subscribe then please go through my link so we can both benefit from a 50 point reward (£5 value) to spend in the Birchbox store.

What were your thoughts on the box this month; did you love it or hate it?

Current Makeup Brush Collection

After my temporary break from blogging, I thought I would start back up with a make up brush collection post. I, like every other beauty junkie, like nothing better than opening and using a new brush and there have been some recent additions to my set.

Temporary Break from Blogging

I have my last university exam coming up on August 28, so theres going to be a little bit of a quiet spell in the blogging until after that date.

I do apologise to my readers, I was hoping to be able to pre-write some blog posts beforehand, but I've been revising for a few weeks and it just hasn't left me any time.

I do promise that there will be some really interesting posts coming up as soon as I've got the exam over and done with. I'm thinking of starting a youtube account in the near future so please keep an eye out for some of my next projects and even give me some suggestions on what you would like to see.

It's only a week and a half and I look forward to coming and showing you some of the ideas that have been swimming around in my head for a while. With the standard review on some new purchases as well!

Thanks for reading :)

Wantable Makeup Box August 2014

I said it was coming and here it is....the Wantable August 2014 make up box! Wantable are an American company who send out subscription boxes every month containing 4 or 5 full size make up only products, they also have separate boxes for accessories and intimates. This is one of the few US subscription services which ship to the UK and it's been one of the boxes at the top of my list, so I'm super excited the first one has arrived.

I've been duped: Fake Benefit Dandelion Blusher

I’m always someone who’s looking around for a bargain. Having been a student for the past four years and currently trying to find employment in a market saturated by graduates, I haven’t got a lot of spare cash floating around. So, when I really wanted to try the Dandelion blusher by Benefit I looked to eBay to find a good deal, as I couldn’t justify spending £23 when I already have a a few barely used blushers.
